The floor is tiled, light floods in through an opaque glass sliding window with keylock and flyscreen.
A double switch controls the light and ceiling fan and there is a power point above the vanity. The white bathtub and the basin are a good
quality brand called Caroma. The large mirror is great and I like the stone insert under the mirror and on the shower wall.
It was an extra feature that we added at the house design stage, but it gives the bathroom a cool modern look.
I like this bathroom althought I rarely use it, which is why it's so bare. But a clean towel
is always there for anyone who comes around and decides to stay for the night if they had a bit too much to drink.
Never a pretty sight, these pictures, but it still needs to be shown as part of the tour of the house.
The floor is vinyl-covered and an exhaust fan runs whenever the light is switched on.
The main ensuite bathroom in the main bedroom area of the house is spacious and well laid out.
Like the other bathroom, the floor is tiled and a double switch controls the light and ceiling fan.
There is also a power point above the vanity. The basin and the toilet are a pale shade of cream and are from a good quality brand called Caroma.
Again, we chose to have a very large mirror which is great. We also added the stone insert under the mirror and on the shower wall,
as we did in the other bathroom, when we chose our specifications with the builder.
I love the sunlight shining through the small window in the morning. Taking a shower in this bright
sunny room is the best way to start the day. The ensuite is fully self contained with a shower and toilet. Both showers are equiped with multi
function waterwise shower heads.
I'm a big fan of movies and there is something to be said about the pleasure of watching TV from
the confort of your own bed.
Having the bed under the window rather than against the back wall means I can wake up and open the blinds,
and check out the weather - usually sunny! - by looking up into the branches of the big gum tree outside.
What a view! What a way to wake up! Because the house is high above the street, no-one
but the birds perched high in the tree can look into the bedroom. I like to fall asleep with the blinds partly open and wake up to the sound
of the birds - including cockatoos, parrots and kookaburras - coming from the bushland across the street.
This walk in robe is quite large and has plenty of storage space for clothes, shoes, etc...
I have installed a small safe in there as well for important documents.
This second bedroom and the third one are both empty as I don't really have any use for them.
I sometimes use them as a bit of storage space for my stuff but mostly, they're used by my friends after a party.
It's not uncommon on a Sunday morning to find a few people in there wrapped in their sleeping bags or whatever they found to sleep on.
It has become kind of a race when friends turn up for a party, first one in to spread their stuff and claim the room can expect a longer sleep
in in the morning. The later arrivals, or the last to bed end up on the sofa or the front room and get woken up by whovever is up first.
Although this room is empty, it is a good size and would make a great office or a bedroom.
This side table matches the coffee table and the dining suite. All the wall are quite bare as I've
never really managed to make this home built for two feel like a home for me on my own. I guess I didn't feel right to put frames
and pictures up when they brought back so many memories.
There are few personal items around the house. A few of my friends have mentioned how "just
moved in" it looks. I suppose I'm just not that kind of guy. I worked away in mines for weeks at a time for a while,
and I tend to be out doing stuff most of the time when I'm in Perth. I spent money and effort setting up the entertainment area
and the spa because I always wanted a home theatre set-up, the rest is just functional.
The picture on this table is one of the few personal touch I've added. It was given to me as a memento of the 100th skydiving jump
I did late last year.
I love the large windows all around the house. It makes it very light and enjoyable to live in.
The eaves on the roof still protect the inside from direct sunlight, so I can enjoy the beautiful Australian weather and sunlight whislt
keeping the house comfortably cool.
The front door opens to a great view.
I use the front room as an office, and spend quite a bit of time in here on the computer.
Through the day it is nice in here with the window open sounds of the birds drifting over from the bushland. For more details on the
computer equipment, see the
"More Good Stuff" page.
Two of the walls are floor-to-ceiling windows, making this area very bright and airy,
and giving it a big open feel. It opens onto the spa and although the mirror is a nice feature of the room, its location and setup
has been carefully chosen for its main purpose: to enable someone sitting in the spa to watch the big screen.
The dining table is made of solid wood with volcanic stone inserts on the top.
It's pretty heavy but very nice. It matches the coffee table in the lounge room and the side table in the entrance.
The lounge-kitchen-dining area is a completely open space and although the house is actually
quite large,
the open plan design gives a feeling of an even more spacious living area. The little postcard on the kitchen bench upstand was given to me
by my friend Paula for my housewarming party and is used on the home page of this site.

All appliances are in brushed-metal silver finish. The hotplates are connected to mains gas
and the oven is electric.
Although compact, the kitchen is well organised with plenty of cupboard space and a large pantry.
The cooking area, the fridge, the sinks and the dishwasher are all close at hand.
There is plenty of storage space above the hot plates and below the kitchen bench.
Plenty of bench space and a big double sink for cooking, which I have to admit, has been a bit wasted with me as I'm not the world greatest cook.
I also hate doing the dishes so a dishwasher was an essential item when designing the kitchen. Like all the other appliances,
it is in a brushed-metal silver finish and blends in perfectly with the large door handles, giving the kitchen a nice modern look.
Doing the dishes, which I do very rarely because the dishwasher does most of the work, seems less of
a chore when you can do it whilst watching a movie on the big screen.
The kitchen has been designed as a open space with a breakfast bar on the other side.
It is a great place for friends to sit and chat with you whilst you prepare a meal. You can be busy in the kitchen and still be part
of the social interaction.
The kitchen is in a modern chocolate and wood colour. It blends perfectly with the wooden-look lino
on the floor and the earth-tones of the rest of the house. I like the amount of light there is in this house.
It's a really enjoyable bright open space.
This furniture comes from the house Laura and I owned before we separated.
We had just finished building our first house when we boght these and we chose quality items.
When not watching TV, the screen can be powered away using the remote control to reveal
an original theatre poster for one of my favourite movies of all time - "Where Eagles Dare". Among my DVDs I obviously
have a copy of this movie.
The shelves on either side of the screen are packed up with Cds and DVDs which you can find out more about in the
"More Good Stuff" page. On the top shelves,
you might notice a little fluffy koala. It was given to me by my friend Em when I became an Australian Citizen and it makes a bried appearance
in the video which you can watch here.

When the screen is down, the lounge turns into a great entertainment area, fantastic to watch TV
or play a video game on the PlayStation, which also plays on the big screen. To find out more,
check the "More Good Stuff" page.
A very comfy spot to watch a movie on the big screen. Find more about the story of the rug
and the sofa (or settee as we English folk say) in the "More Good Stuff" page.
The lounge opens up on the spa area, a small outdoor space niched between the lounge and the dining area.
The perfect spot for a spa.
The laundry area offers plenty of extra storage space if needed. The door hides a spacious storage
cupboard with built in shelves.
This lockable storage space is accessible from the carport and uses the same key as the front
and back door of the house. It's a great spot for storing all the things you don't want in the house. Anything you see there will stay.
That includes a ladder, all sorts of tools and paints leftover from painting the house for those cases when an emergency touch up is required,
as well as my bike and some waterskiing equipment.

Find more about these things in the "More Good Stuff" page.
